Bentley announces launch of sustainable NFTs

Following a lineup of car makers driving into the Web3 space, British luxury car manufacturer Bentley Motors announced the drop of its genesis NFT collection.
The limited-edition drop will feature 208 NFTs and is set for launch in September 2022 on the Polygon network. 208 is symbolic of Bentley’s fastest production, Grand Tourer – the Continental GT Speed and the total production run of the 1952 R-Type Continental that inspired the modern Bentley design DNA.
The company added that holders will receive rewards and access from Bentley, stating that they will be ‘treated to exclusive community opportunities, rewards and unique utilities – to be announced soon.’
The price is not revealed yet but Bentley has promised to use the sales profits to fund students interested in engineering, design and manufacturing, areas that Bentley hires talents annually, as well as organizations that focus on sustainability.
The Bentley NFTs will be minted on Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network that is carbon neutral. According to the announcement, the Bentley NFTs will be eco-friendly and aid the company towards realizing its goal of achieving end-to-end carbon neutrality by 2030. This marks the same year when all Bentley vehicles will become fully battery electric, and it is vital that its first initiative in Web3 is carried out in a sustainable way, according to Bentley.
The company also revealed they’re exploring other Web3 avenues including NFCs (non-fungible chips), gaming, Blockchain and Metaverse applications.
Member of the Board for Sales and Marketing, Alain Favey, spoke of Bentley’s genesis collection, ‘Bentley customers are living their lives online, purchasing luxury goods with digital currency, and establishing businesses in the Metaverse. We’ve always engaged our customers where they explore their passions, and today that means being present in digital marketplaces and offering NFT assets. We’ve seen how NFTs have raised the profiles of both art and artists, and we believe the same can happen in the luxury automotive space.’
The news comes after Rolls-Royce introduced its NFTs last year, McLaren’s launch of MSO LAB dedicated towards the brand’s upcoming NFTs in April 2022, Hyundai’s NFT project Meta Kongz as part of Hyundai’s Metamobility, the company’s concept of the Metaverse.
