Hyundai Card, Hyundai Motor Group’s credit card arm, has announced a partnership with South Korean programming training startup Like Lion to launch an NFT marketplace and offer a digital wallet service towards the second half of 2022.

The joint venture, dubbed Modern Lion, will be minted based on Hyundai Card’s assets.

Like Lion was founded in 2013, as a startup that offers programming education to non-professionals so they can create and develop their own web services. The startup has several Blockchain-based products under its wings, including NFT PFP collection ‘Hyundai x Meta Kongz’, launched in collaboration with Hyundai Motor and play-to-earn NFT trading card game Slytare.

Hyundai Card was South Korea’s fourth-largest credit card company in terms of operating income in 2021, raking in around US$ 324 million that year.

Hyundai Motor also launched its first exclusive NFT collection in May 2022 under the theme Metamobility, to support its future vision for robots and mobility as well as to provide its users with the Hyundai brand experience in the Metaverse through NFTs that depict mobility solutions such as virtual reality (VR) to allow people to overcome the physical limitations of movement in time and space.

Earlier this year, Hyundai Card also posted job openings that aim to recruit individuals with experience in NFTs and Blockchain technology, signaling its expansion into the Metaverse.
