Seven-time Ballon d’Or award winner Lionel Messi is joining Sorare, the NFT fantasy trading game, as an investor and ambassador.

The two will work together to set new standards in how fans connect with clubs and players through new content and fan experiences.

As Sorare’s ambassador, the soccer icon will help the company grow its 2 million user base across 185+ countries and 300 sports partnerships, including LaLiga, the Bundesliga, and Serie A. Messi also acquired an equity stake in Sorare but the amount was not disclosed.

‘Fans have always looked for ways to express their passion and get closer to the players and teams that they love and Sorare’s combination of a fantasy game with digital collectibles gives fans new ways to do that, wherever they are in the world,’ said Messi.

Valued at US$ 680 million, Sorare is a free-to-play fantasy sports game that allows players to trade NFT cards that feature their favourite sports celebrity. Players can also form teams of five players and win or lose based on results of real life soccer matches.
