Mariah Carey is entering the NFT space this week in partnership with Geojam, The Fresh Air Fund and the Make-A-Wish foundation.

The NFTs are designed like a boarding pass, and offer two people (the winner bidder and a guest) the opportunity to meet Carey and fly with her on a private jet from Atlanta to New York next month where the superstar will be officially inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.

The two people can also sit with Carey at her table during the induction ceremony and enjoy a two-night hotel stay in New York.

The NFT asset comes in the form of a spinning boarding pass (on ‘Butterfly Airways’) in Carey’s signature colour palette, ‘pink yet lavender’ and accented with glitter. The superstar will accompany the NFT launch with a custom audio recording.

Bidding for the NFT launched on June 3 on Geojam.com with Geojam’s native token $JAM with  minimum bids starting at US$ 5,000 and will end on June 9. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale will go towards The Fresh Air Fund. The Songwriter’s Hall of Fame ceremony will take place from June 15 - 16.

Inspiration behind Carey's debut NFT

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Carey said, ‘This particular NFT experience is based around the once-in-a-lifetime moment of being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and sharing my joy with one of my amazing fans while also raising money for two phenomenal charities that are very close to my heart.’

Before Carey announced her NFT release on Instagram, she shared memories from a pivotal moment in her career on June 2, 1992, when Sony Music released her MTV Unplugged Live EP.

‘Happy anniversary to my ‘MTV Unplugged’ show! Happy anniversary to that girl on stage who was so nervous and scared to even sing in front of a crowd. Also she had no idea this last minute ‘unplugged’ show would become a ‘thing!’’ wrote Carey on Instagram. ‘During that performance, I remember having a breakthrough moment.. the realization that all I needed to do was SING and actually CONNECT with the people in the audience and be in the moment with THEM!!! And then we were in it together. When I watch this now, it’s revelatory how many insanely talented musicians and singers I had the privilege of sharing that small stage with and I truly feel blessed.’
