Blockchain and Ethereum scaling tool, Polygon has announced a partnership with tech startup Nothing to bring Web3 functionality in Nothing’s smartphones.

The partnership will see Nothing integrate Polygon into its products to unlock access to Web3 functionality. In turn, make crypto and NFTs accessible to a larger audience.

The announcement comes after another blockchain and Ethereum scaling tool Solana announced its own Web3 enabled phone called Saga.

The smartphone manufacturer Nothing will be airdropping its first NFT tokens dubbed ‘Black Dots’ to its investors within its community called ‘Nothing Community Dots,’ from July 7. This will give community members access to exclusive community content and benefits including merchandise discounts on merchandise, early access to new products and offline events and more perks.

The first perk the Black Dot community members will receive is an exclusive invite to the Phone (1) launch. In addition, the company also announced plans to make its phones and other ecosystem devices future-ready by enabling sustainable and secure access to Web3. Nothing phone users can also access games and apps on Polygon, payments and future features including proof-based identification solutions, Polygon ID and more.

Speaking of the partnership with Coindesk, Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal said it is ‘immensely encouraging to see an innovator like Nothing embrace Web3 from the get-go, enabling direct access to Web3 by working with Polygon.’

Nothing also weighed in on the partnership, saying that, ‘The Polygon partnership will take Nothing’s Web3 plans a step further. Going forward, the company also plans to make its phone category and other ecosystem devices future-ready by enabling sustainable and secure access to Web3.’
