Proof Collective raises US$ 50M and teases future Moonbirds NFT set

Web3 startup Proof announced it has raised US$ 50 million during a Future Proof Streaming presentation on Tuesday. Plans for new NFT initiatives and tokens were also announced.
Proof is founded by Kevin Rose and best known for its popular Moonbirds and Oddities project.
The Series A funding round was led by venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz’s a16z and Gary Vaynerchuk’s VaynerFund. It follows a US$ 100 million fund from Reddit’s co-founder’s company Seven Seven Six, True Ventures, Collab+Currency, and FlamingoDAO.
During Tuesday’s community event, the company revealed plans to launch a Moonbird’s spinoff collection dubbed Moonbirds Mythics which is a 20,000 PFPs collection expected to be launched in early 2023. Moonbirds Mythics comes after the original Moonbirds and Oddities NFT collections.
The new collection will feature a free-style hand-drawn look and will emulate the early samples shown during the presentation. Proof will allow Moonbirds owners to ‘nest’ (or stake, effectively) their NFTs in order to receive a Mythics NFT as a reward. Peculiar bosses can also burn (or destroy) their NFTs in exchange for Moonbirds Mythic.
Proof will store the Moonbirds NFTs entirely on-chain so that Ethereum project’s smart contract, the code that determines the instructions, will not need to call on any external servers. If the owner of Moonbirds NFT also holds a Proof Collection NFT pass in the same wallet, they will automatically enable a unique background behind the owl avatar.
Additionally, the firm revealed several other upcoming NFT initiatives in the making, including ‘Proof X’ collaborations with artists that tap into unique smart contract functionality. A ‘Curated’ brand is also on the way for renowned creators to release works from some of their favorite artists.
