Square Enix unveils Web3, collectible NFT art game

Square Enix announced the debut of its collectible NFT art experience, Symbiogenesis.
It will also operate as a virtual gaming world in which players can collect characters as digital art, participate in games as well as to display them social media profile pictures (PFPs).
Players can also participate in an interactive story line to untangle a mysterious tale by solving puzzles, completing missions by answering questions on the monopolization and distribution of resources.
It also aims to build a dedicated community of players and Web3 fans. The game is slated for release on Ethereum in spring 2023.
Square Enix is a Japanese production and entertainment conglomerate with US$3 billion in assets under management and is best known for its online role-playing game franchises, which have sold over 10 million copies worldwide since 2020. The games include Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest series, and the Tomb Raider franchise.
In Oct. 2021, the company entered the web3 space with the launch of NFT digital stickers that came with customizable backgrounds and frames to give each NFT a unique quality.
In May 2022, the company published its Q1 earnings report and announced it will add NFTs into its blockchain-based gaming products, tackle scalability and establish a corporate capital venture unit to manage and invest the company’s in-game tokens.
