Walmart enters the Roblox Metaverse

U.S. retail giant Walmart has officially entered the Metaverse. With the launch of two experiences titled Walmart Land and Walmart Universe of Play in the Roblox Metaverse.
The retail giant announced on Monday that Walmart Land will feature a virtual store that drops merchandise that corresponds with offerings from Walmart’s physical stores and online stores. Participants can also engage in games and contests to earn tokens and badges. Moreover, the virtual land will host a virtual concert titled ‘Electric Fest’, with Kane Brown, Madison Beer, and Yungblud in October 2022.
Meanwhile, Universe of Play will offer ‘the year’s best toys’, including Razor Scooters, Paw Patrol, and Jurassic World characters. There will also be a blimp that drops toys, a store with virtual merchandise, and other games.
William White, chief marketing officer at Walmart U.S., commented, ‘Roblox is one of the fastest growing and largest platforms in the metaverse, and we know our customers are spending loads of time there. So, we’re focusing on creating new and innovative experiences that excite them, something we’re already doing in the communities where they live, and now, the virtual worlds where they play,’
Walmart filed Metaverse related trademarks earlier this year, which indicated interest in expanding its offerings to cover virtual goods, virtual currency and NFTs.
