Walt Disney seeks to hire corporate lawyer for NFTs and the Metaverse

Walt Disney continues laying the groundwork for incorporating Web3 to company’s future offerings, it just announced that it seeking a ‘Principal Counsel - Corporate Transactions, Emerging Technologies & NFTs’ to work on transactions including NFTs, the Metaverse, blockchain, and decentralized finance (DeFi), among other things.
The job listing was posted on the Disney careers website on September 23 and posted on LinkedIn on September 25 respectively.
The new hire will be expected to offer 'full product life cycle legal advice and support for global NFT products', and ensure they comply with all current laws and regulations in the U.S and internationally.
The new hire will also perform due diligence for ‘NFT, blockchain, third-party marketplace, and cloud provider projects,’ and offer day-to-day legal advice to Disney legal and business teams on NFT and crypto-related issues. Additionally, they will assist with complicated agreement talks and the writing of contracts.
Disney’s foray into the Metaverse
In July 2022, Disney announced its focus on building the future of immersive experiences using augmented reality (AR), NFTs and artificial intelligence (AI) in its 2022 Disney Accelerator Program. It selected various Web3 startups to participate in the program, including Flickplay, Inworld, Lockerverse, Obsess, Polygon and Red6.
In June 2022, the entertainment conglomerate hired former Apple Arcade executive, Mark Bozon as Disney’s SVP of next-generation storytelling to formulate next-generation storytelling in the Metaverse and lead a team to deliver interconnected consumer experiences across Disney’s business and products.
During the company’s Q4 earnings call on November 21, CEO Bob Chapek said the company was preparing to blend physical and digital assets in the Metaverse.
