Yuga Labs takes users on ‘First Trip’ through the Otherside Metaverse

Last Saturday was a memorable day for the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) faithful as they finally got a glimpse at the much-anticipated, still incomplete Otherside metaverse from Yuga Labs.
On that day, 4500 people – called Voyagers - were given a demo tour of Otherside’s virtual world. The selection of participants for the virtual trip was based on ownership of the previously issued Otherdeed NFTs - tokenised land plots of the Otherside virtual world.
The excursion took the Voyagers to the 'Biogenic Swamp' with a giant Bored Ape as a tour guide. From there, they were led to a stadium in the center of the virtual world, where they could test avatar emotes like dancing, running, and jumping. They were also able to explore and interact with the environment.
Shortly after the demo started, Yuga Labs released a litepaper detailing Otherside’s principles, how it works, and its plans. The document said that the Otherside project is split into three phases and explained the first phase.
Phase 1 marks the beginning of development for the Otherside platform, according to the litepaper. 'Voyagers are invited to participate in Voyager’s Journey, an 11-part storyline surrounding a mysterious Obelisk that has appeared in the Otherside universe,' it reads.
Otherside developers also revealed that only Otherdeed NFT holders and 'selected third-party developers' will be allowed to participate in Phase 1. They will all contribute to the platform’s development using the Otherside Development Kit, the platform’s suite of creation tools.
Otherside will also focus on interoperability, allowing Voyagers to use their digital assets from other platforms. The developers believe it aligns with Web3’s core principles of accessibility and democracy.
Otherdeeds NFTs
Yuga Labs’ Otherdeeds were a big hit when they launched, mainly due to the utilities they offered in the Otherside metaverse. Since the collection’s debut in May, it has generated over US$1 billion in sales volume, according to CryptoSlam.
There are 100,000 Otherdeed land NFTs for the Otherside metaverse. According to OpenSea, the lowest price at which you can get one is 2.78 ETH (US$ 4127.90) at the time of writing.
