Yuga Labs inaugurates the Bored Ape Yacht Club Council

Yuga Labs announced that it had selected individuals to form the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) community council. The council consists of owners of Bored Ape and Mutant Ape NFTs, who were picked for their record of 'contributing to the club,' on October 5.
The BAYC/MAYC council will be autonomous and, as leaders, will focus on representing the community and providing feedback directly to Yuga Labs. It will also recommend community initiatives and work with Yuga Labs to support said projects monthly.
The seven chosen members for the council include Josh Ong, Sera, Laura Rod, 0xEthan, 0xWave, Negi, and Peter Fang. According to the company, each member will bring their various skill sets with ideas to the table, and Yuga Labs will assist in making the best ones a reality.
Yuga Labs has said the council is likely to expand its member count and inaugural council member 0xWave promised to 'advocate for not seeing the current council as forever enshrined but rather a first iteration.'
Despite the hype the council announcement received on social media, some community members are not satisfied by the initiative. Some believe that Yuga Labs picking the council members, goes against the core decentralisation principle of Web3, and are of the opinion that the council members should have been voted for by the community.
The company says it is also exploring the needs of its other NFT communities – CryptoPunks, Meebits and Otherside – meaning we could see the same council initiative for those communities too.
The BAYC/MAYC council announcement comes after the news of Yuga Labs publishing a litepaper for its Otherside metaverse, and officially releasing intellectual property (IP) rights to CryptoPunks and Meebits owners.
